Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies – what a water world!

Don’t wait until you’ve already planned a trip to the Smoky Mountains to visit Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies – plan your travel around the visit! It’s well worth a trip to see this marvelous, huge water attraction. TripAdvisor called Ripley’s Aquarium Of The Smokies the best aquarium in the country!

Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies is located in one of Tennessee’s most beautiful towns – Gatlinburg. There more than 350 species of sea life at the aquarium – for a total of over 10,000 individual animals!

There are ten different areas in the aquarium. Each one will introduce you to exotic new creatures. In the Ocean Realm exhibit, you’ll find giant octopus, spotted garden eels and the scorpionfish – who disguises himself as a plant! In the Tropical Rainforest, you’ll make friends with the poison dart frog, the anablep (with four eyes!) and the famous, fearsome piranha.

Some of the world’s most beautiful fishes live in the warm waters of the Pacific, and at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, you’ll find more species of them than you can count. And did you know that a coral reef is made up of colonies of animals? At the Coral Reef exhibit, you’ll meet blue tang, spotted clown fish, and butterflyfishes with lovely false eyespots on their tails.

But the largest and most popular exhibit is the Shark Lagoon You’ll move through it on a 340-foot long glidepath. And the sharks won’t be alone. They have green sea turtles for company, as well as tarpons and green moray eels.

Make it a point to find the jelly fish, and the stingrays – and don’t forget the penguins!

Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies has a wonderful educational program, and a sleep-over event you can enjoy with the kids. Like all of Ripley’s aquariums, it’s certified by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the international organization that sets standards for animal care and welfare.
