Winter Olympic Games to be Held in the Great Smoky Mountains

Family skiing on the mountainOber Gatlinburg is proud to announce that they will be hosting the Winter Olympic Games. Ober Gatlinburg has been preparing to host approximately 140 athletes during this year’s games.

The athletes who make their way to the Smoky Mountains from January 27-28 will be competing for gold in a variety of activities, including Speed Skating, Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding. These Olympic games aren’t your traditional Olympics, though. . . they’re better! Every year, Ober Gatlinburg hosts the Special Olympics at their Ski Resort. The opening ceremonies of the event in Gatlinburg are set to begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, and the closing ceremonies will take place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Special Olympics are truly a memorable experience for everyone involved. The Special Olympics began in 1968, even though the idea of having Special Olympics began a few years before. The Special Olympics are a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities.
