That means you can enjoy the peacefulness of nature and still be just a short drive from all the fun attractions in the city. If you’re hoping to enjoy all the top attractions, take a look at these 3 fun things to do in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg:
The Dollywood amusement park opened its gates in 1986 and quickly became a beloved Smoky Mountain tourist attraction. In fact, it attracts more than 3 million visitors every year. This is because there is something fun to do for everyone. For example, thrill seekers can ride the many roller coasters, one of which is the Wild Eagle. When the ride was built, it made history as the first “wing” coaster in the United States. The coaster’s train is a flock of eagles, and riders sit on either side under their wings. The ride reaches maximum speeds of 61 miles per hour as it climbs up a 210-foot hill and barrels down a 135-foot drop. On the other hand, if you want a more laid-back activity, experience one of Dollywood’s entertaining shows. Listen to The Tones sing your favorite pop songs or meet some high-flying friends at the Wings of America Birds of Prey show.
Pigeon Forge’s Titanic Museum is another one of the fun things to do in the Smoky Mountain area, especially if you love American history! The attraction’s activities teach visitors all about the grand ship and its infamous demise. Walk up a $1 million replica of the Grand Staircase and see models of the different types of living quarters. You can also shovel coal in the boiler room which is how they powered the ship. As for the sinking, see if you can maintain your balance on the ship’s stern as it tilts and feel the chill of 28℉ water. You can also sit in an actual-size lifeboat! At the end of your visit, go into the Memorial Room and see the names of all 2,240 passengers on board and whether they survived the sinking.
Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies is a must-see attraction in Gatlinburg. It houses a variety of activities, each of which bring visitors up close and personal with marine life. When you ride the Glass Bottom Boat in Shark Lagoon, there is a rich ecosystem of over 8,500 aquatic animals representing over 75 different species right at your feet. Another awesome thing to do here is visit the Penguin Playhouse. It is regarded as one of the best penguin exhibits in the world. Kids will love going through the tunnels to get a closer look at the funny creatures. Get tickets to the Penguin Encounter and watch as they create works of art using their feet. Come experience these activities and everything else that Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies has to offer!
