Head on over to Great Smoky Mountains National Park where both you and your pet can enjoy some exercise in the great outdoors! Dogs are permitted in certain areas of the park as long as they are on a leash of 6 feet or less at all times. They are allowed in campgrounds, picnic areas and along paved roads, as well as on the Gatlinburg Trail and the Oconaluftee River Trail. The Gatlinburg Trail is a relatively flat 1.9 mile one-way hike that starts at the Sugarlands Visitor Center and finishes at the outskirts of Gatlinburg, running along the western prong of the Little Pigeon River. The Oconaluftee River Trail is situated on the North Carolina side of the park and is a 1.5 mile one-way hike that follows along the side of the Oconaluftee River before reaching the outskirts of Cherokee, North Carolina.
