If you’re planning a fall getaway, it’s hard to beat a trip to Gatlinburg, TN! The Great Smoky Mountains are home to over one hundred species of native trees, which creates an incredible tapestry of changing leaves unlike anywhere else in the nation. When you stay at one of our vacation cabins in Gatlinburg, you will have the perfect homebase for making the most of this wonderful season. Auntie Belham’s Cabin Rentals has put together a few tips for an amazing fall retreat in the Smokies:
Staying at one of our Gatlinburg cabins with mountain views is always great, but it is an extra special experience during the fall. There is nothing better than sitting out on your cabin’s deck and admiring the magnificent foliage without leaving your home away from home. Whether you relax in a rocking chair or unwind in the hot tub, you will love having a front row seat to the brilliant colors in the mountains. Don’t forget to bring a camera, so you can share the beautiful scenery with your friends and family back home!
Since the changing leaves are the main attraction for a fall getaway in Gatlinburg, you will obviously want to plan your trip for when the leaves are at their best and brightest. Pinning down exactly when “peak season” occurs is difficult, because weather patterns cause the leaves to change at slightly different times each year. Nevertheless, there are some weeks that are typically very good for leaf peeping.
Generally, the last two weeks of October and the first week of November is when the leaves are particularly beautiful in the lower elevations of the mountains. This is the sweet spot for a scenic drive in Cades Cove or a hike on the Little River Trail.
If you can’t stay at our vacation cabins in Gatlinburg during this period, don’t worry! The fall colors come to the higher elevations of the Smokies around late September and the first few weeks of October, so you can still enjoy the foliage earlier in the season. This time is ideal for visiting Clingmans Dome or hiking Gregory Bald.
Gatlinburg gets into the Halloween spirit with a number of great events in the fall. Ripley’s Haunted Adventure offers thrills and chills throughout the year, but during the month of October, this attraction really goes all out. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights, Ripley’s hosts its annual “Fright Nights,” which are jam packed with frightening fun. Visitors can also dar to walk through the Mysterious Mansion in Gatlinburg, or enjoy one of the ghost tours that highlight some “haunted” areas in the city!
When you stay with Auntie Belham’s Cabin Rentals, you’ll get free tickets to some of the area’s best attractions. For a fall vacation, we suggest redeeming your Smoky Mountain Adventure Pass for a complimentary adult ticket to one of the mountain coasters! Whizzing through the trees on a coaster is one of the most exhilarating ways to see the fall colors up close! You can also try the Mountain Drop at the Mountain Mile to be raised up in the air 200 feet for gorgeous views of the fall foliage. Once at the top, you’ll be dropped with only a lap belt securing you safely in your seat. Other attractions you can visit for free are Dollywood, Crave Golf Club, and Paula Deen’s Lumberjack Feud!
